CAPT ROBERT V. KESTELL CORNISH, M.C. DORSET REGIMENT
Report from the Dorset Year Book 1917-18 (from Mrs Muriel Monk)

Early last June a very brave and distinguished officer of the Dorsets was gazetted adjutant of his battalion in succession to Acting Major H.C.Butcher, D.S.O. Captain Robert Vaughan Kestell Cornish, M.C., the officer mentioned by "Eye-witness" for his "lonely valour" at Hill 60, where he successfully stemmed a German assault by holding on tenaciously to a vital position with only four men left.

On June 29th, nearly two months later, he received the Military Cross, and last February had a bar added to it for the marked courage and ability which he showed while in charge of a working party under heavy fire, and later for maintaining his position, in command of two companies, under most difficult conditions.

He died in France on June 17th, 1918, of wounds received on March 18th.
